Who’s always on a hunt for a good sunscreen? The SCINIC Enjoy Super Mild Sun Essence is not as widely known as some other sunscreens out there, but I’ve only heard good things about it. This is an organic (chemical) sunscreen. I see it listed as a physical one on a lot of sites, but it is not. Just like a lot of others it has been re-formulated and the protection level has been confirmed via testing. Please make sure you get the new version if you decide to get this.

How does the SCINIC Enjoy Super Mild Sun Essence perform

Protection:
SPF50+ PA++++ (verified SPF 57.6 and PFA 23.5 PA++++ by Korea Institute of Dermatological Sciences)

Texture:
The consistency feels like a lotion or water cream. It is not thick and doesn’t feel greasy. When you first apply the sunscreen, it may feel a bit on the heavy side, but in a couple of minutes it sets in a smooth, non-sticky finish which I love. Looks so natural, with a beautiful sheen (not overly dewy).

Does it contain alcohol?
No.

Fragrance/Scent?
No fragrance or EOs. Although, it has a scent coming from ingredients which is a bit unfamiliar, however, it does not linger.

Is it drying?
It doesn’t dry out or the skin and it’s not mattifying either. I can get away with using minimal steps before like a toner, essence and have my skin feel enough moisturized. Those with dry skin can use a face cream if the sunscreen is not enough. On the other hand, if your skin is oily and you live somewhere humid maybe a mattifying sunscreen would be a better choice so you don’t look shiny.

Does it leave a white cast?
No. There is a tone up effect one I apply the sunscreen, but it looks like skin before it even gets to absorb completely.

Irritation or breakouts?
One day my skin felt a bit overly sensitive and I sensed a bit of a stinging sensation so maybe it’s not ideal for very sensitive skin types.
I went to bed without washing off the suncreen once and I still didn’t get any pimples, so I think this could be ok to use for acne prone skin (read the ingredients list).

Easy to re-apply?
Yes.

How does it work with makeup?
Works well with makeup and other skincare products. It doesn’t pill. Make sure to hydrate and prep your skin well if you’re dry or dehydrated!

Does it sting the eyes?
No. It does not sting the eyes. I’ve applied it on my eyelids generously and no irritation or stinging has occurred.

Final Verdict

Pros

  • Feels moderately moisturizing.
  • No eye stinging.
  • It doesn’t pill.
  • Not sticky.
  • No whitecast.
  • Satin-dewy finish, but not greasy.
  • Feels very smooth on the skin.
  • Most suitable for normal, combination, dry and dehydrated skin.
  • Free of alcohol, fragrance and EOs.
  • Vegan.
  • Affordable.

Cons

  • Not ideal for oily skin that doesn’t want to look shiny (especially in hot humid weather).
  • Maybe not for very sensitive skin types.

To sum up, I see why people rave about this and it has become one of my favorites to use, especially now that the weather is colder. It is not too moisturizing, so it doesn’t make my oily dehydrated skin shiny, but rather gives a beautiful sheen. I have to layer my lightweight hydrating products under it to prep the skin better though. No whitecast, eye stinging, pilling or stickiness. The finish is silky smooth and works well with makeup.
Again, awesome formula with newer gen filters and other great ingredients such as Niacinamide, Green Tea and Centella. Honestly, I’d definitely give this a try if you’re looking for your next K-sunscreen as it may become on of your Holy Grails!
