I hope you’re all having a great weekend! Today I have a new review of another item for [Try me, Review me]: It’s the Pyunkang Yul Calming Moisture Barrier Cream. Anyone who hasn’t heard of this popular k-beauty brand yet? I have tried a few products from PKY and love the PKY Essence Toner and their Moisture Serum. So, I was excited to try out this new cream!

What is the Pyunkang Yul Calming Moisture Barrier Cream

Claims: The Calming Moisture Barrier Cream is a lightweight soothing moisturizer targeted mainly for sensitive and irritated skin. Infused with Cica, tea tree extract (not EO), and honeysuckle flower extract to calm irritation and protect against environmental factors. Ceramides help strengthen the skin barrier and lock in moisture. It comes in a 50ml tub.

Application

Apply the cream as the last step of your skincare routine and before sunscreen. It can be used both morning and night. Since this comes in a tub, I use a clean spatula to scoop the product out.

Consistency

The consistency is super lightweight and feels like a gel-cream. It becomes almost watery when you are spreading it, but has some slip to it.

Scent

The Calming Moisture Barrier Cream is fragrance-free and essential oil-free, just like every other skin care product from Pyunkang Yul which makes it great for those with sensitive skin.

Performance

This is a barrier cream, so you might expect it to be thick but that’s not the case with this one. I’m afraid dry skin types will not find it enough moisturizing. It could work if you supplement the hydration with other products such as toners, ampoules or essences, and as a daytime moisturizer for summer time!

For people with oily to normal skin on the other hand, I think this would work great! It’s light and doesn’t feel occlusive at all. The cream absorbs so well into the skin and there is no sticky feeling left behind.

The finish is almost matte when I’ve tested it on its own. This could change depending on what products you use under the cream. How much you apply could also make a slight difference, however, my skin has never turned greasy from using this.

It does soothe and reduces some of the redness on my skin, although the effect is not dramatic. It works better in this regard when paired with other skin care products that have soothing benefits!

Works well under makeup and sunscreen. It doesn’t ball up.

Ingredients

The cream contains Centella Asiatica Extract and two of its active components: Madecassoside and Asiaticoside which have skin-soothing and antioxidant properties.

Lonicera Japonica Flower Extract (Japanese Honeysuckle) – It’s an anti-inflammatory and soothing agent.

Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Extract – This is an extract and not the essential oil. It could contain the active components of the oil in much lower concentrations.

Other notable ingredients include: Glycerin ( a great moisturizer/humectant ), Sodium Hyaluronate ( the salt form of hyaluronic acid ), Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer ( “cross-linked” form of hyaluronic acid which has five times the water-binding capacity of normal HA ), Ceramide NP ( ceramides are important for a healthy skin barrier ), Squalane ( an emollient and natural moisturizer ).

It does not contain alcohol, fragrance or essential oils.

Final Verdict

Pros

  • It’s lightweight and absorbs well into the skin.
  • Has a matte finish.
  • Leaves the skin feeling soft.
  • Suitable for oily-normal and sensitive skin types.
  • Free of alcohol, fragrance and essential oils (sensitive skin).
  • Slightly soothing.
  • Didn’t break me out.
  • Cruelty-free.

Cons

  • Not enough moisturizing for dry skin.

A lightweight gel-like cream mostly suited for oily-normal and sensitive skin types which helps moisturize without feeling heavy or sticky. It absorbs quickly into a matte finish and leaves the skin feeling soft. Works better when paired with other soothing skincare for irritated skin. It doesn’t contain any alcohol, fragrance or essential oils which makes it perfect for very sensitive skin types.
